At Prince Charles School our instruction is focused on building and improving literacy and numeracy. Students will demonstrate growth in reading and writing with an instructional emphasis on Balanced Literacy. Through the use of manipulatives and a variety of pedagogical approaches, students will show growth in math skills as they proceed through the simple to the complex and the concrete to the abstract.
Assessment for Learning strategies enable teachers to measure student growth through daily observations, conversations, assignments, performance-based school assessments, and large-scale assessments. These may include HLATs (Highest Level of Achievement Test), SLAs (Student Learning Assessment, MIPIs (Math Intervention/Programming Instrument), and PATs (Provincial Achievement Tests).
